“Average IS Beautiful” – New Doll Has Healthy Body Proportions

Since 1959, little girls around the world have been playing with Barbie dolls, and while these moulded pieces of plastic may seem harmless, they have a huge influence on a girl’s growing mind and self confidence.

Mattel has faced a number of controversies surrounding the infamous doll, most to do with Barbie’s size and proportions, as well as her lack of career choices.

A year ago an image went viral, depicting a regular Barbie (one you would see in stores) standing side-by-side with what Barbie would look like if she was a “normal” women.

An actual version of this “Real Barbie” is available for pre-order. Creator of last year’s viral image, Nickolay Lamm has partnered with Mattel’s former vice president of manufacturing to create the Lammily line, dolls based on the body proportions of the average 19 year old American female. You can pre-order your Lammily doll here by backing the project!

I’m very excited about what this means for the future of young girls body image, because average IS beautiful!
