DIY Mascara

Like some food products, we can at times be ignorant of the ingredients that are found in our makeup. Now, I’ve never had any health issues directly correlated to my beauty products, but it would be nice to know exactly what’s in my blush or mascara, and precisely how each of these beautifiers are made.

That’s why I think this recipe for all-natural mascara is so cool! You can make it at home with organic materials and know each step of the process.

Take a look at this recipe:

Ingredients:
2 tsp coconut oil
4 tsp aloe vera gel
1/2 tsp grated bees wax
1 – 2 capsules of activated charcoal (for black) or cocoa powder (for brown)
a clean mascara container

Directions:
1. Put coconut oil, aloe vera gel, and grated bees wax in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until beeswax is completely melted.
2. Open 1 – 2 capsules of activated charcoal (depending on desired color, about 1/4 – 1/2 tsp) and pour into oil mixture. Stir until completely incorporated. Remove from heat.
3. Pour into clean mascara container.

Sounds easy enough!

You should be very vary when making it though; like all products that have direct exposure to your skin, you must make sure all tools and containers are properly sanitized and bacteria-free for the DIY process. You don’t want any germs to enter your product, or else you run the risk of infection (and nothing is worse than an eye infection).
